If you choose to have a body part pierced, you run the risk of the following:
- Chronic infection
- Prolonged bleeding
- Scarring
- HIV, Hepatitis B and C (which can be fatal) and Tetanus
- Skin allergies to the jewellery that's used
- Abscesses or boils (infected cysts under your skin at the site of the piercing, which may have to be drained with needles)
- Permanent holes in your face
- Chipped or broken teeth
- Choking from mouth jewellery
- A speech impediment
