If you choose to have a body part pierced, you run the risk of the following:

  • Chronic infection
  • Prolonged bleeding
  • Scarring
  • HIV, Hepatitis B and C (which can be fatal) and Tetanus
  • Skin allergies to the jewellery that's used
  • Abscesses or boils (infected cysts under your skin at the site of the piercing, which may have to be drained with needles)
  • Permanent holes in your face
  • Chipped or broken teeth
  • Choking from mouth jewellery
  • A speech impediment
This is a picture of the cheek piercing. It consists of a stud which is pierced through the cheek, above the lips, but below the nose.
