Your skin will be marked with a special antiseptic called "Gentian Violet" using a sterilised cocktail stick as a pen. This serves four purposes:

  1. It marks your skin for accuracy of piercing.
  2. It kills organisms that are present on your skin on contact.
  3. It cleans the piercing as the piercing is made.
  4. It then keeps the piercing clean for up to 2 weeks.

When this is used in conjunction with a special dressing called an occlusive dressing, your piercing looks after itself for the first week. This means that whilst your piercing goes through the very important first stage of the healing process, you don't even touch or clean it! How easy is that.

This is a picture of a belly button piercing. It depicts a small piercing through the fold of skin at the top of the navel, with a stud placed on each side of the piercing.
