Join us on Wednesday, March 24, 2004 at Global Divas 2004, a fundraising event to support St. Stephen's Community House. Global Divas is an international celebration of women in song, and headlining the show is Grammy nominated and Juno award-winning jazz virtuoso Jane Bunnett and her band, The Spirits of Havana. Smokey and sultry Portuguese fado songstress Catarina Cardeal and Gazelle of the Mali desert Oumou Soumaré will entertain and mesmerize the audience. Afro-Cuban son princess Caridad Cruz will delight the senses and the reigning queen of Haitian song Emeline Michel will capture all with her entrancing voice. The audience will also be captivated by the breathtaking rhythms of soulful Brazilian samba singer Monica Freire and South Asian jazz fusionist Suba Sankaran. Last year, the inaugural Global Divas drew over 650 people and many more enjoyed the incredible concert that was broadcast later on CBC Radio. Building on the success of last year, Global Divas 2004 will be held at Kool Haus at 132 Queens Quay East, one of Toronto?s popular entertainment spots. The evening will begin with the gala reception starting at 6:00 p.m., featuring food from around the world and an opportunity to explore the Global Marketplace for exciting treasures before enjoying the concert at 8:00 p.m. As you know, St. Stephen?s Community House is a multi-service social agency that provides critical programs and services to over 28,000 individuals living in downtown Toronto. By supporting Global Divas, you are helping to make a difference in the lives of some of the most vulnerable people in our community.
